Anchor of WDAM's 5, 6, and 10 o'clock evening newscasts, Steven is a veteran journalist with more than 30 years of experience in broadcast, print, and online media. During his two decades as a field reporter, he covered just about every kind of story that you might expect could happen in South Mississippi, ranging from hurricanes to presidential campaign rallies to a law enforcement raid on a backwoods moonshine still.
"If there's a more consistently interesting job than mine, I don't know what that might be," he says. "And it's a privilege to be able to serve the people of my home community."
A native son of Laurel with deep family roots in the Pine Belt, Steven is a proud alumnus of Northeast Jones High School, Jones County Junior College, and the University of Southern Mississippi, where he earned his bachelor's degree in journalism, graduating summa cum laude through the Honors College.
Off-camera, Steven is an avid traveler whose journeys to date have taken him to 17 countries on six continents, most recently Australia and New Zealand.
Back home in Lamar County, you might find Steven bicycling or walking the Longleaf Trace. "One of the best things that's ever been done for the Hattiesburg area," he calls this 41-mile-long rails-to-trails conversion. "To all the folks who made it happen, I say thank you."
