SOUTHERN Ill. (KFVS) - Southern Seven Health Department (S7HD) postponed its upcoming Southern Illinois Miners night that was scheduled for Friday, August 20.

The health department cited increasing rates of COVID-19 in the region as the cause.

The Miners will still be playing at Rent One, just the sponsored night.

S7HD is hoping to reschedule the event for spring 2022.

“This event was meant to be a community celebration for all we have been through this past year,” said Shawnna Rhine, S7HD community outreach coordinator. “But with COVID cases on the rise, and many in our region not vaccinated, it is more important to protect our most vulnerable neighbors.”

Proceeds from the event were going to benefit the community programs conducted through the health department’s Healthy Lifestyles Committee.

The department said it plans to use the proceeds from the rescheduled spring game in the same manner.

As the number of COVID-19 cases continues to rise throughout southern Illinois, Southern Seven asks that everyone get vaccinated, if possible, wear a mask in public places regardless of vaccination status and maintain social distancing.

Those who bought tickets for the Southern Seven Miners Night can request a full refund by calling the Southern Illinois Miners at 618-969-8526.
